Lantern Slides Preservation Brochure

"Lantern Slides Preservation Brochure" was created for Preservation Strategies (LI827) with a classmate, Sara Shreve.  This class introduced us to the history of the production of media formats common to libraries and archives. It exposed us to numerous resources for strategies and techniques for conservation and preservation.  This assignment was to create a fact sheet about seven preservation considerations for a format of our choosing.
We chose to investigate Lantern Slides, which are glass positive images used for entertainment and education from the 1880s to the mid twentieth century.  The seven factors we had to consider were the history of the format, the composition of the format, the life expectancy (and what factors contribute to its deterioration), handling considerations, storage considerations, exhibition/loan considerations, and reformatting (and/or treatment options).
Sara and I worked well as a team, divided the research fairly, and developed the design of the brochure collaboratively.  Research for the project exposed us to several new resources (both print and online) for the preservation of media formats commonly found in libraries and archives.  We used images to make the brochure dynamic and included links to some interesting lantern slide collections on the web.  In the end, we created a very user-centered, informative, attractive brochure.
